Workshop for your own group
With your company, friends or family you book a cooking workshop for your own party, from 8 people. Times, number of participants and content can be adjusted in consultation.
Buitenkoken Giethoorn (outdoor cooking) runs open-air cooking workshops at Hoeve Schouwenburg on the Kanaaldijk. Guided by host René Reupkes, you cook a dinner together over a wood fire, with a view of passing boats and Weerribben-Wieden National Park.
Outdoor cooking means chopping wood, lighting a fire and keeping it burning, and preparing dishes together on it. You work with Dutch ovens and other cast-iron pans from Petromax, over a wood fire and charcoal briquettes. Because you work together in small groups and taste each other’s dishes, the workshop is a good outing with colleagues, friends or family. The farmyard is on the Beukers-Steenwijk canal; from the back garden you look out over the nature reserve towards Dwarsgracht.
At Buitenkoken Giethoorn you can take a wood-fire cooking workshop, have dinner outdoors, organise a group outing or team building day, and look at and buy outdoor cooking equipment.
You book the cooking workshop, the version with beer and the Complete Outdoor Day online on the Buitenkoken Giethoorn booking page. For the other programmes, call René Reupkes.
After the welcome, René explains how it works and the tasks are shared out. Then you light the fire yourselves. In pairs or small groups you prepare part of the meal, so that together you end up with a complete table. You pick fresh herbs in the herb garden. While you cook, you taste each other’s work and you eat together. You finish with coffee or tea from the fire.
What you cook differs from day to day. During the workshop you get an explanation of the cooking equipment. If there is a rain shower, you carry on cooking under the shelter.
With your company, friends or family you book a cooking workshop for your own party, from 8 people. Times, number of participants and content can be adjusted in consultation.
Are you on your own, as a pair or with a small group? On a number of fixed dates you can join a workshop with other guests and share the table with people you have not met yet.
René gives the workshops himself. That is why Buitenkoken Giethoorn works with groups of up to about 40 people. You can discuss with him what suits your group.
In this version of the cooking workshop, beer from the Giethoorn area takes centre stage, in the pan and in the glass. As in the regular workshop, you also cook a dinner over a wood fire. You can book this version from 6 people.
The Complete Outdoor Day combines boating, cycling and the cooking workshop. You start with a welcome at restaurant De Rietstulp on the Hylkemaweg, where you also receive a packed lunch. Then you take a one-hour boat tour with a skipper and guide through the old village centre. After the boat tour you have time to look around the village, for example at museum ’t Olde Maat Uus, and then the bikes are ready for a ride through the surroundings. You end the day with the cooking workshop and a dinner at Buitenkoken Giethoorn.
In addition to the fixed packages, Buitenkoken Giethoorn puts together programmes for companies, groups of friends and families. To arrange one, contact René Reupkes.
With a group you drive a route through Weerribben-Wieden in colourful vintage DAF cars (known as Dafjes). Each car gets an envelope with the route, questions and a survival kit, and at every stop there is a riddle, task or activity waiting. The winner receives the DAF trophy. You start at Buitenkoken Giethoorn, at your company or at another location, and finish with the cooking workshop.
Before the workshop you take a boat tour of 1 or 2 hours with a guide through Giethoorn and the nature reserve, past farms, reed beds and small tjasker windmills. You can start the day with a welcome beforehand.
Your own day programme built around the cooking workshop, from 8 people. Think of boating in a whisper boat, canoeing, cycling, walking, archery or kick biking, or a visit to Blokzijl, Vollenhove, villa Ramswoerthe in Steenwijk or the Colonies of Benevolence. A multi-day package with an overnight stay is also possible.
With the training ‘De Smaak van Gastvrijheid’ (The Taste of Hospitality), you explore with your team what hospitality means for your organisation. You look at your own organisation, get examples and practical tips from the field, and work on a vision, a strategy and a step-by-step plan. Topics include the guest journey, hosting, and hospitality in marketing and communication. During the training you take a boat tour through Giethoorn and the national park, and you finish with a wood-fire cooking workshop.
The training was developed together with VIPD and is given as a tailor-made programme, in one day or spread over several days. It is intended for companies and organisations, and also for students on a related course.
Buitenkoken Giethoorn is a Petromax dealer. In the showroom in the old horse stable of Hoeve Schouwenburg and in the outdoor kitchen you can see a large part of the range: Dutch ovens, pans, barbecues and fire bowls, coffee pots and kettles, cooking tables and accessories. You get advice on buying cooking equipment and setting up an outdoor kitchen, and you can collect items you have ordered online. A visit to the showroom is by appointment.
René Reupkes has a background in hospitality, marketing and communication and regularly attends product training at Petromax in Germany. You also use the equipment from the showroom during the workshops.
