Hotel room
Basic room
A small, simply furnished room with TV, radio, a safe and a chair. The bathroom has a shower and toilet.
De Dames van de Jonge is a family hotel with a restaurant on the Beulakerweg in Giethoorn. Grandma Geesje de Jonge began renting out rooms here in 1958, and the family still welcomes guests from all over the world.
De Dames van de Jonge calls itself a homestay hotel: small-scale and personal, with rooms that used to belong to family members. You stay in the house of a Giethoorn family who have lived and worked in the village for generations. In the restaurant you eat with ingredients from farmers in and around Giethoorn, and from the hotel's own mini harbour you step straight into a boat. You can also simply drop in for coffee or tea, a drink on the waterside terrace or in the garden room, a lunch or a high tea.
At De Dames van de Jonge you can stay overnight, dine out, have lunch, order a high tea, have a drink on a waterside terrace, hire whisper boats and sloops, go punting, take a boat tour, hire bikes, go walking and hold meetings.
No two rooms are the same. When you book you choose a room type, but exactly what your room looks like remains a small surprise: you stay in the room of one of the family members. You start the day with breakfast.

B&B Grachtenhuis
In the centre of Giethoorn, in a renovated farmhouse overlooking the canal. There are three guest rooms, each with its own bathroom and toilet, TV, wifi and coffee and tea. The farmhouse has no kitchen; you have breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
Grandma Geesje grew up on the farm and cooked with the seasons, with whatever her own garden and the region provided. Her recipes have been kept and get a new twist in the restaurant, with vegetables and other ingredients from the gardens and greenhouses of farmers in and around Giethoorn. The kitchen wants to cook healthily for people and planet, without waste and with plenty of vegetables, or “greunten” as grandma would say.
The menu changes, with vegetarian and vegan options. For the current menu, call the hotel. The kitchen is happy to coordinate with you and takes dietary requirements into account. The restaurant works by reservation: book at least 24 hours in advance. For a group or a special dinner the family will gladly make a proposal.
You do not have to stay overnight to join the Dames. Come for coffee or tea, have a drink on the waterside terrace or in the garden room, or stay for lunch. A high tea is possible too, on the terrace or inside.
The restaurant pays attention to health, the environment and local producers from the region.
Behind the hotel is the Dames' mini harbour. From there you hire a whisper boat or an electric eco sloop for up to eight people, with a silent motor. You hire a boat for a minimum of three hours or for a full day and sail through the village and Weerribben-Wieden National Park. No boating licence is needed: you receive clear instructions beforehand. Feel free to bring something to eat or drink yourself.
Would you rather not steer yourself? Then you sail along with a local skipper. There are boat tours with punters for up to eight people and tour boats for up to 52 people. On the Giethoorn Round Trip you sail for an hour and a half with a captain who tells you about the history and secrets of the village; longer trips are possible on request. You ask by phone whether a boat is still available at the jetty: 0521 36 13 60.
At the hotel you can hire bikes for a trip through the villages and nature of Weerribben-Wieden National Park. The hotel is also the starting point of the walking junction network in Giethoorn and the surrounding area, with routes for short and long walks.
The family are certified hosts of Weerribben-Wieden National Park and are happy to tell you where it is busy and where it is quiet, where you can walk or cycle nicely and where to eat well. Places such as Blokzijl, Vollenhove and Steenwijk are nearby, as are Friesland and Drenthe.
With groups of up to 20 people you can meet, train or consult at the Dames. You hold a break-out session on the terrace, a private dinner in the garden room, a short walking meeting through the old village, or you set off from the jetty behind the hotel for a boat trip. For team outings, a day on the heath in the national park, events and business boating in a punter or sloop, the family will gladly make a proposal. Call the reservations department for that: 0521 36 13 60.
For a longer stay there are multi-day packages with an overnight stay, dining and a trip on the water. Call for the options.
Grandma Geesje de Jonge began renting out rooms in 1958, sometimes even those of her own children. Around that time tourism in Giethoorn got going, partly thanks to the film Fanfare by Bert Haanstra. Grandfather Willem had a building firm and extended the house: from a bed & breakfast with cold water to a guesthouse with a washbasin in every room. In the evening everyone ate together at the table.
Daughter Roelie took over the business, had the garden room, new hotel rooms and a large waterside terrace built and devised multi-day packages with boat, dinner and overnight stay. Now granddaughter Gabriella is at the helm. She created a herb garden and the mini harbour and enlarged the terrace. De Dames van de Jonge also takes part in Oud Giethoorn, a collaboration of businesses in Giethoorn Noord and Midden who want to show visitors the quiet, original village.
Since 1958. Grandma Geesje de Jonge began renting out rooms in the building that grandfather Willem, a contractor, largely built himself. Daughter Roelie took over after that, and now granddaughter Gabriella runs the hotel and restaurant.
There are three room types: the Basic room (small and simple, with shower and toilet), the Comfort room (classically furnished, with shower) and the Farmhouse room in B&B Grachtenhuis, a renovated farmhouse in the centre of Giethoorn overlooking the canal. No two rooms are the same; which room you get exactly is a small surprise.
