D'Olde Smidse lies on the main road on the south side of Giethoorn, right on the Beulakervaart. Three generations of the Bons family run the business: Dirk Jan, Dirk Jan jr. and Sebastiaan. You can stay overnight in the hotel or the holiday home, have lunch and dinner in the restaurant or pick something up from the snack bar. It is about a ten-minute walk to the centre of the village, and Weerribben-Wieden National Park begins right next to the village.
